Today’s my pickup in Davenport, and I am looking forward to what I get. I’ve had to stretch a bit to handle vegetables I was less familiar with –which is one of the reasons I signed up for a CSA share! And oh, those strawberries have been so tasty!

I’ve been reading Michael Pollan’s “In Defense of Food” …and he says one of the best things you can do is buy a CSA share. It forces you to eat a variety of plant foods, not just the few with which you are most comfortable, and so you get exposed to a healthier variety of nutrients. P., Bettendorf

I was very pleased not to have missed my pickup…I got some of the ‘Prairie Breeze’ cheese while I was out (at the farm)—is that yummy! …Finally getting some warm weather for growing ourveggies…I don’t like it, but I know it’s good for them…Now I find I’m actually trying some new stuff, like kohlrabi…which is good. ..I forgot to mention,I tried the fudge from the store. It is the best I’ve ever had (except for my own of course!) D., Galesburg

I just wanted to let you know that we really enjoy our half share. I fixed the beets for work today and they were very good—I can’t remember when I had fresh beets. Loved the green beans….Opening up the boxes is like Christmas morning—you don’t know what you are going to get but you know that it will be good. Thanks. M., Milan
